Q. Why is this the only benefit plan that has limited enrollment opportunities?
A. The Group Legal Service Plan limits enrollment strictly as a means to contain costs and keep the plan affordable for all members who choose to participate. For the same reason, this plan requires that once enrolled, you must remain a participant for a minimum of one year. Like insurance coverage, you must be enrolled in the plan before the need for its services are required.

Q. How often do you have Group Legal Open Enrollment Periods?
A. Open Enrollment Periods are limited. To control costs, they are not scheduled at the same time each year nor are they scheduled every year. Open Enrollment Periods are made on a random basis to avoid "anti-selection", meaning that only those people who already need the services of an attorney would enroll, driving costs up.

Q. When is your next Open Enrollment Period?
A. The decision to hold an Open Enrollment Period is made just a few months in advance with notice given to the membership through the national APWU news magazine, notices sent to Local, State and National officers and through direct mailings to member's homes. Members may submit an application for the benefit plan at any time and it will be held until the next Open Enrollment period. Those applications received between Open Enrollment Periods will be the first enrolled.
